In 1993, I wrote the book The Falconer’s Apprentice. It helped many apprentices to learn more quickly how to handle, care for, train, and hunt with their first hawk. More importantly, it presented the ethical philosophy adhered to by many falconers and falconry organizations.
When American Falconry magazine came along, I suggested to the editors that I write a column for the apprentice falconer. I submitted a few articles to show them that there was still more to say about apprentices, Red-tailed hawks, and falconry ethics. They agreed to let me write the Beginners’ Circle.
